Description
Sawmill Lodge is an L-plan brick house built in the 19th century, featuring one and a half storeys and a slate roof. It has a central ridge stack made of blue brick, along with an additional external stack at the rear. The front of the house has two windows and an advanced gable on the left side. The windows are adorned with flat brick arches that have exaggerated splays, and they are both mullioned and transomed, consisting of five lights in the lower storey, two lights to the left in the upper storey, and three lights in a dormer on the right. The dormer and cross gable are decorated with fretted barge boards and pendant finials.
The central doorway is located beneath a slated canopy and features a boarded and part-glazed door. On the left elevation, there are two windows with two and three lights that match those on the front. The right elevation has cross windows beneath splayed brick heads in the gable, as well as in a subsidiary two-span wing located at the back. This wing includes a lean-to with a ledged and battened door. At the rear, there is a single-storey projection extending from the main range. The property was not accessible during the inspection in July-August 1996.
