Description

Epworth Lodge is a 19th-century building constructed from random rubble with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. It is two storeys tall and has an L-shaped plan with a central entrance hall, showcasing a picturesque asymmetrical domestic gothic style. The front features a hipped-roofed porch at the angle of the two ranges, which has a shouldered arch leading to the doorway.

To the right, an advanced coped gabled range includes a squared bay window on the ground floor, with pointed arched mullioned lights and a lean-to roof, as well as a three-light window above with shafts acting as mullions. The left-hand range has two narrow shouldered windows and a trefoiled window over the porch. This range faces southwest and features a canted bay window with shouldered mullioned lights on the ground floor, along with a three-light window beneath a coped gable above.

The rear of this range has a gable facing the garden, which includes shouldered mullioned windows in both the gable end and side wall, as well as a stack at the corner of the gable. A late 20th-century conservatory projects from the ground floor. The continuation of the gabled wing is also advanced to the rear. There is a continuous string course along the principal elevations and moulded stone brackets supporting the oversailing eaves. The building has axial stacks and end wall stacks in this wing, along with an axial stack in the southwest wing, all topped with moulded caps.
