Description
The Anchorage is a building designed in a simple mild Gothic style, featuring a two-storey main range on the east side and two parallel gabled ranges of equal height at right angles to the rear (west). The exterior is constructed from roughcast rubblestone and topped with a slate roof that has overhanging verges and carved purlin ends.
The main range includes a slightly projecting gable on the right side, which is adorned with timber mullioned and transomed windows on both floors, with casements below the transoms, each consisting of four panes. There is a gabled porch at the angle of the main section, which contains a Tudor-arched outer doorway with joggled voussoirs and a ribbed door. To the left of the porch is a mullioned and transomed window, with a gabled dormer above that breaks the eaves, featuring a two-light window with twelve panes. The left gable end has a mullioned and transomed window on the first floor and a similar three-light window directly below it.
At the rear, the gabled ranges have prominent ridge stacks located near the junction with the main range, featuring stone bases and four rebated red brick shafts with stepped capping. The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey.
