Description

Cresborough is a house built around 1840, featuring a two-storey L-shaped main structure in a simplified Gothic style. It appears to have been added to an earlier building, likely represented by the lower service wing that runs parallel to the entrance range. The main elevations are finished with lined out render, while the rear elevations expose rough rubble. The roof is covered with slate and includes axial and end wall stacks, typically with paired polygonal shafts.

The entrance front faces east and features a central doorway set in a gabled porch with a four-centred archway. This is flanked by a mullioned window with paired arched lights on the right and a similar three-light window, likely illuminating the stairs, on the left. Above the porch, there are paired windows with similar detailing, and to the right, a five-light window is positioned above.

The garden front consists of a five-window range, symmetrically arranged with three slightly advanced gables separated by narrower single window bays. The advanced gables are accentuated by polygonal pilasters with decorative finials, which are corbelled out at the upper storeys and support the moulded gable copings that also end in finials. Each of these bays features a tall four-pane sash window on the ground floor, with a similar but shorter window above. The upper windows have drop-ended hood moulds, matching those in the intermediate bays, which have floor-length sashes forming French windows on the ground floor, also with hood moulds. All windows are set in slightly splayed openings.

On the left-hand return elevation, there is a small paned canted bay window with transoms. At the rear, a single-storey lean-to, slightly canted in plan, projects at the angle of the main range and rear wing, featuring a pointed window with small-paned glazing, along with two similar windows in the main range above. The long two-storey rear wing has various sash windows with 12 and 4 panes.

The building has been partially inspected but retains some original detailing, including Gothic joinery.
