Description
The North Wing and Entrance Yard of Picton Castle consists of a range of 2- and 3-storey rubble buildings that enclose a courtyard and are connected to the main block of the castle by a single-storey passageway with a slate roof. This structure has been extensively restored and is likely primarily from the 18th and 19th centuries. It features a style that conforms to the castle, including battlemented towers, round angle turrets, and battlemented walling. Most windows are sash style, although some are in tall, narrow, square-headed openings. This area was formerly used as the domestic quarters.
The interiors have been modernized for visitor use. In the bakery, there is an oven with a brick setting that measures approximately 1.5 meters square and 1.5 meters high, complete with an integral hearth. The same room also contains a large 19th-century fireplace grate. Additionally, a slab from the World War II mortuary, which was installed in the former butcher's shop, has been preserved.
