Description

Romano is a Grade II listed building constructed from random rubble with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. It is two storeys high and has an L-shaped plan with a central entrance hall, designed in a picturesque asymmetrical domestic Gothic style.

At the front, there is a hipped-roofed porch located in the angle of the two ranges, featuring a shouldered arch above the doorway. The advanced coped gabled range to the right includes a squared bay window on the ground floor, which has pointed arched mullioned lights and a lean-to roof, as well as a three-light window above with shafts acting as mullions. The left-hand range has two narrow shouldered windows and a trefoiled window over the porch.

This left-hand range faces southwest and features a canted bay window with shouldered mullioned lights on the ground floor, along with a three-light window beneath a coped gable above. The rear of this range has a gable facing the garden, which includes shouldered mullioned windows in both the gable end and the side wall, along with a stack positioned at the corner of the gable. A late 20th-century conservatory projects from the ground floor, and there is a continuation of the gabled wing that is also advanced to the rear.

The principal elevations feature a continuous string course and moulded stone brackets supporting the oversailing eaves. There are axial stacks and end wall stacks in this wing, as well as an axial stack in the southwest wing, all topped with moulded caps.
