Description

Oteley House is a Grade II listed building constructed from coursed and squared stone, topped with a slate roof. It dates back to the Gothic style and features two storeys with an attic. The design is asymmetrical but follows a regular plan, with a central entrance leading to a stair hall.

The entrance front has a wide gable on the right, which includes a four-centred arched doorway and a trefoiled oriel window above it. To the right, there is a squared bay window with mullioned and transomed lights, topped with an embattled parapet that displays a monogram and date in low relief. Above this bay window is a three-light ogee mullioned window, and in the gable apex, there is a two-light Decorated window. A projecting gathered stack is located on the right-hand return, flanked by single trefoiled lights on each floor.

Beyond this, there is a two-window range that features a trefoiled window in the principal rear room and a plain window in the service range. To the left of the gable, a single window gabled range is recessed, showcasing a three-light ogee mullioned window on the ground floor with a relieving arch above, as well as a two-light Decorated window with a coped dormer gable above it. Both gables are coped, and the left-hand gable has a flat stepped parapet at its apex.

The garden front to the west includes a squared bay window with an embattled parapet and trefoiled mullioned lights, along with a stilted arched hood mould over a three-light upper window. Beyond this is a rougher rubble service wing.

Oteley House retains its original plan and many original features, including an encaustic tiled top-lit entrance and stair hall, as well as stairs adorned with Gothic trefoiled balusters and pendant newels.
