Description
Willow Bridge, built in April 1877 by Peter Walker of the Willow Brewery, is constructed from coursed and squared stone. It features a single arched span with a two-centred arch made of a double ring of voussoirs. The bridge has a parapet with octagonal terminal piers, although one is missing on the east side, and it is topped with raking coping. An inscribed stone on the inner face of the parapet reads 'Willow Bridge. This bridge was erected by Peter Walker of the Willow Brewery April 1877'. The line of the parapet extends as a return wall along Willow Street, which serves as a base for an iron railing adorned with spear-head finials. Beyond the octagonal stone gate piers, there is a section of more ornate spear-head railings that includes a middle rail and urn finials on the principal posts. Additionally, there is a segmental arch to a culvert beyond the bridge, constructed of brick with moulded stone springers, a keystone, and a cornice. The opposite side of the river features a roughly coursed and squared rubble embankment wall with a moulded cornice.
