Description
9 Grove Road is a late 19th-century domestic gothic style house. It is built of roughcast render over brick, with slate roof featuring decorative scalloped bands. The house has two storeys and a two-window front, with a central entrance hall. The building is in an "L" shape, with a tower rising over the entrance in the corner. A stepped hood mould frames the four-centred arched doorway, with a datestone positioned above. The tower has a pyramidal roof and contains a four-pane sash window with a distinctive drop-ended hood mould. Matching four-pane sash windows are located to the left of the doorway on each floor. A gable to the right incorporates a canted bay window with a two-light window and drop-ended hood mould above. Further four-pane sash windows, each with a hood mould above the lower window, are situated to the left of the entrance. A gabled return front overlooks the side garden, again featuring a canted bay window on the ground floor and sash windows with drop-ended hood moulds above. A continuous string course runs across the main elevations. The gabled wing containing the entrance forms a service range to the rear. The building includes a stack on the rear of both the main range and the service wing. The interior retains the original layout, including the entrance hall and main staircase.
