Description
The Former Grove Park School is a building that reflects a neo-classical style interpreted in the 1930s, with some art deco elements. It is made of brushed brick, featuring panels arranged in herringbone and geometric patterns. The main entrance on the west side has a wide, symmetrical façade with 15 bays, hipped advanced end bays, and a prominent central entrance made of stone or artificial stone. A dedication stone next to the entrance doors was laid by William Jones JP, Chairman of the Governors, in June 1938. The building has three wings that extend backwards: a central hall wing flanked by two mirrored classroom wings. Quadrangles and cloistered walkways connect the spaces between the wings.
A notable feature is the double sweep stair in the main entrance hall, which has terrazzo treads and cast iron balustrading. Smaller similar stairs are located at the rear of each side wing. The layout of the classrooms remains largely intact, along with some original details such as dado panelling, doors, and parquet flooring.
