Description

Huckworthy Lodge is a house built in the early to mid-19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The structure is made of rubble that has been rendered and lined out, featuring granite dressings and slate roofs with raised coped verges and crestings on the front wing. The building has an irregular T-plan, consisting of a front wing and a rear parallel service wing, and is designed in the Tudor Gothic style.

It stands two storeys high and has four bays. The left bay has a 20th-century conservatory attached, with an inner three-light tall hollow-chamfered plate glass window and a smaller two-light window beneath the eaves. The second bay projects and features a two-light window with four-centred arched lights, cross glazing, recessed spandrels, and a hood-mould, with a similar two-light window above and a shield with a hood-mould in the gable end. The left side of this wing has a four-centred arched hollow-chamfered doorway with a four-panelled door and a hood-mould supported by corbels, while the right side has a blocked lancet window at ground floor level.

The third bay contains a three-light plain window at ground floor and a two-light window under the eaves. The fourth bay has a five-light bay window at ground floor and a three-light window above in the gable. The building features a plinth.

On the right return, there is a blank gable end to the front range, while the rear parallel range is set back and has a three-light 20th-century casement at ground floor, with two-light granite windows on each side, positioned at an angle with the rear wing. The rear wing includes a 20th-century ground and first floor light and a second lean-to with two doors and a single light.

The left return has a two-span roof over two gable ends. The right gable end features a two-light ground floor window with four-centred arched lights and a hood-mould, along with a three-light plain granite window at first floor. The left gable end has a three-light ground floor window and a two-light first floor window, with a pointed arched lancet window above in the gable end.

The interior is not accessible, but the front rooms are noted to have four-panelled doors, panelled shutters on the windows, and plain cornices.
