Description

This is a barn located about 15 meters south of Whimington Farmhouse. It is likely from the early 19th century and incorporates parts of an earlier building, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The structure is built from granite and slatestone rubble, topped with a slate and corrugated iron roof. Its irregular shape results from various additions over time. Originally, it was a rectangular building with a central entrance at the front; however, a launder at the rear and a millwheel may have led to the closure of this rear entry.

The front features a lean-to on the left, with its roof extending from the main pitch, and has two openings: a cart entry to the main barn on the right and a two-storey addition on the right front. The right end of the barn is at a higher ground level and includes a loading door with a timber lintel in the gable end. The left end has a door in the rear addition, two ventilation slits, and a window opening in the main gable end, along with an upper two-light window featuring a timber lintel.

At the rear, there are remnants of the launder for the mill wheel and a socket for the wheel in the rear wall, as well as a lean-to addition on the rear right. Inside the front left addition, there is a doorway with a timber lintel leading to the barn. Inside the barn, a central rear doorway with a timber lintel leads to the rear lean-to, and the barn has a seven-bay roof from the 20th century, with a low rubble partition dividing the left end's two bays. The barn and the stable form a cohesive group with Whimington Farmhouse, creating a farm courtyard.
