Description

Pont-y-Wern is a single-span regional road bridge made of local limestone rubble. It features a segmental arch with rough-dressed voussoirs that are slightly recessed below the arch rings made of narrow stones. The carriageway has a noticeable hump at the center, and the rubble parapets follow this incline. At the approaches, the parapets are splayed out and end in square piers. The bridge is topped with sandstone slab copings that have metal ties and various incised graffiti, with the earliest date recorded as 1880.
