Description

Bryn Celyn is a small 19th-century country house designed in an L-plan. The main northeast section is constructed from rough-dressed, uncoursed rubble, while the Victorian range is made of yellow stock bricks, which is unusual for the area. The house features slate roofs and brick chimneys with two tiers of offset dentilations.

The primary section has a three-bay garden facade, with a broad gable on the left and two bays on the right. The ground floor includes 4-pane French windows, and above are 12-pane sash windows. Each of the two right-hand bays has a gabled dormer in the attic, featuring 12-pane casements and slate-hung sides. The broad gable displays late 19th-century decorative bargeboarding. At the rear, there is a 19th-century slated lean-to pentise with an entrance on the right, which includes a moulded four-panel door with a Regency lozenge overlight.

The later range has a three-bay main section with an advanced gabled range on the left. This section features decorative finials and cusped bargeboards on the oversailing verges. The narrow central bay of the main section is advanced and gabled, rising to full height. It has a recessed 12-pane sash window with marginal glazing on both the ground and first floors, along with a blind triangular-headed light at the gable apex. Similar flanking windows are present on both floors. The projecting gable on the left has a first-floor window like the others, and two large plain Victorian sashes on the ground floor. Throughout the building, there are plain sandstone flat-arched lintels and projecting sills. A modern polygonal glazed conservatory addition is attached to the left corner of the advanced gable.

The interior was not inspected during the survey.
