Description

The Barn at Tyddyn Tlodion is a Grade II listed building featuring a combination of brick and stone construction. To the left, there is a brick stable block, followed by a slightly taller stable block primarily made of stone, with significant brickwork on the right side. The long main section has a corrugated iron roof. The front wall includes a stone plinth and retains areas of timber framing with brick infill, with the wall plate visible beneath the eaves. There are several openings: a door on the left, another door near the center, a window, and a doorway towards the right end. At a right angle to the right, there is a block with a slate roof, mainly constructed of stone, which has a former cart entrance that has been filled in with brickwork. The rear of the main block is mostly timber-framed with brick infill, although there is a section made of stone. The right end is partly rendered and features two panels that retain wattle-and-daub infill.

The main block consists of four bays and retains its old purlins and wall plates, although it has a modern ridge. Upon entering through the left doorway, to the left is a brick gable shared with the stable; to the right, there is a cruck with a heavy tie-beam supporting a vertical post to the collar, along with some vertical members of framing below the tie-beam. Entering through the next doorway, there is a similar cruck to the right, although its lower part is obscured by boarding. The right doorway leads to a two-bay former house; on the left end is the rear of the second cruck, followed by a brick partition that likely marks the site of a lost cruck, and then the right end gable of the main block, which is partly obscured at the time of inspection and features a cruck with a remodelled apex.
