Description

This is a rectangular outbuilding located at Berth, constructed from limestone rubble and brick, featuring a box-framed core and a corrugated iron roof. The west side is made of rubble and has a former near-central entrance that has been converted into a window with a 20th-century six-pane tilting sash. Above this window is an inset 18th-century sandstone plaque with an eroded date and the initials H [...] LL, which may refer to Hugh and Ursula Lloyd. There is also an open window under the eaves, framed in pegged oak, and another tilting sash window on the ground floor to the left.

The east side is built of 18th-century red brick resting on a tall limestone rubble plinth. The north end is composed of rubble with a brick upper gable, which features an open, framed window in a reduced opening, likely a former loading bay. To the right, there is an 18th-century entrance with a stopped-chamfered, pegged oak frame, a cambered head, and an old boarded door. The south gable is constructed of 20th-century brick.

Inside, the building has a two-and-a-half bay layout, with the last bay truncated. The timber-framed structure of the primary building is visible in the upper floor and roof, with wall posts and trusses still in place, encased externally in rubble and brick. The first bay contains framed partition trusses (though some rails and uprights are missing) along with stopped-chamfered lateral beams and plain joists in the ceiling; the other bays have had their beams removed. Old lime plaster remains in many areas.
