Group of 14 Lamp Standards

This group of 14 cast-iron lamp standards dates from the 19th century and is similar to those found on the Promenade. Each lamp standard features a circular shaft with ladder rests and was originally equipped with lamp holders and sockets. The finials are supported on two sides by slender curved iron brackets that rise from above the shafts. There are two designs of bases: either plain octagonal bases or circular bases that are ornately decorated with bead and cable mouldings and foliage motifs.

The lamp standards are located as follows: outside No 1 Mostyn Street, with a circular base, restored shaft, and lampholder; outside Nos 9 and 11 Mostyn Street, with a circular base, restored shaft, and lampholder; outside No 21, with a circular base, restored shaft, and lampholder; outside Nos 29 and 31 Mostyn Street, with a circular base, restored shaft, but no lampholder; outside the forecourt to St John’s Church, with a round base, restored shaft, but no lampholder; outside No 65 Mostyn Street, with a circular base and restored shaft; outside No 1 St George’s Place, with a round base and restored shaft; outside No 81 Mostyn Street, with a round base and restored shaft; outside the northern end of No 107, with an octagonal base and restored shaft; outside No 119 Mostyn Street, with a round base but no shaft or lampholder; outside No 121 Mostyn Street, with a round base, restored shaft, and no lampholder; outside Nos 127 and 129, with an octagonal base, restored shaft, and lampholder; and outside Nos 145 Mostyn Street, with a round base, restored shaft, and lampholder.
