Description
Toll Bar Cottage is a 17th-century building constructed of stone, with some timber framing, slate hanging, and slate roofs. It features perforated red clayware ridge tiles and a tall ribbed brick chimney stack. The cottage is a single storey with a two-bay plan, including a short wing to the north that faces the road and a lower service wing to the east. The prominent elevation facing oncoming traffic from Abergele has a three-light paned window with a timber-framed panel, which has been repainted with shields, situated before a plain boarded door. Stone corbels at the ends support the jettied gable, which displays a series of decorative timber-framed panels and slate hanging, with bands of fish-scale slates in the upper section. On the south side, the living room extends into a canted bay window with paned glazing, all beneath a square extension of the roof. The building was not accessible at the time of inspection.
