Description
The mausoleum in the churchyard of the Church of St George is built of Derbyshire sandstone and designed in an early Gothic revival style. It has a cubic shape with buttresses at each corner that rise to heavily crocketed spirelets. Each face of the mausoleum is gabled and similarly features crocketing, topped with a terminal fleur-de-lys. Three sides include blind 4-light Perpendicular traceried windows, while the south side displays a carved coat-of-arms for Hughes, quartered with his wife, Charlotte Margaret Grey. This coat-of-arms features a dragon and an armed 'native Briton' supporter, along with a large crest on a baronial coronet and a wreath above. Below the arms is a scroll that reads "RHAD DUW A RHYDDID." The roof is pyramidal and made of stone slabs.
