Description

The Turnpike is a Gothic-style building constructed from polygonal Carboniferous limestone with ashlar dressings and features a slate half-hipped roof. It has one storey and an attic, consisting of 2.5 bays. The left half-bay contains a recessed, pointed arched framed and boarded door. To the left, there is a canted bay topped with a sprocketed pyramidal roof, which has paired shouldered lights on each face. The right bay is wider and features triple shouldered lights. On the eastern gable end, there are two similar single lights, and each end of the building has a triangular oriel window at the attic level. A 20th-century extension has been added to the rear, and there is a brick stack.
