Description
The Primary Barn at Faerdre is a rectangular barn constructed from rubble, topped with a corrugated iron roof. It features opposing entrances in the second bay from the left, which have exposed timber lintels. To the right, the end bay includes an upper boarded entrance accessed by external stone steps and an exposed timber lintel, along with another entrance to the right that has a boarded door and a similar lintel.
Inside, the barn has a five-bay layout, with the right-hand bay being an addition beyond the former end wall, which includes a boarded upper loading bay. The main section contains two open former framed partition trusses, designed with pegged collar-and-tie-beam construction, showing evidence of struts through mortising. Both of these trusses feature segmental cut-outs in their tie-beams, which correspond to the heads of former entrances. The third truss is of the arch-braced collar type and includes chamfered detailing.
