Description
This is a long barn built of whitened rubble on a boulder plinth, featuring a medium-pitched, undulating slate roof. It has a near-central entrance on the long south side, marked by a pegged oak doorcase, a boarded door, and an exposed timber lintel. To the left, there is a late 19th century or 20th century lean-to, while to the right, a series of triangular vents and vertical slit-vents are present. On the north side, there are three recessed boarded doors with exposed timber lintels, along with two modern rubble buttresses between the two western-most doors and additional ventilation slits. A loading bay is located on the east (downhill) gable, featuring another triangular vent beneath.
Adjoining the barn to the north at the western end is a 19th century L-shaped carthouse and stable range, which partly encloses a small yard. The carthouse is a single storey with a plain cart opening to the right, while the stable block is two stories and adjoins at right angles to face the barn. The stable has a door to the left, a window to the right, and external stone steps leading to a first-floor entrance on the east gable. The openings feature brick quoins and segmental voussoirs.
Inside, the barn has a four-bay primary roof supported by full-cruck trusses, some of which show signs of smoke-blackening. The trusses have pegged collars and tie-beams, although the tops of the trusses have been sawn off above the collars, indicating a 19th century secondary roof structure.
