Description
The barn at Bont Newydd is a sub-Medieval vernacular structure, likely built in the early 17th century, with later extensions to the west. It is constructed of whitened rubble and features a medium-pitched slate roof. The main entrance is wide and off-centre to the right, showcasing an original primitive boarded door with a chamfered frame made from re-used structural timbers, and it is fitted with large wooden swivel hinges. To the left, there is another boarded entrance, while to the right of the main entrance, a high unglazed window is covered with a boarded shutter. Flanking the main entrance are two rows of four vertical ventilation slits.
At the rear, there is an opposing entry with another entrance on the far right, which also has boarded doors and exposed timber lintels. A similar high boarded window is located to the left, along with additional ventilation slits on this side and the east gable side.
Inside, the barn has a six-bay layout, with the two westernmost bays being additional and separated by rubble walls. The primary section features a four-bay roof supported by queen post trusses, constructed of pegged oak with trenched purlins.
