Description
The Barn Range at Ty'n-y-Ddol is a rectangular barn dating from the 18th century, with a low adjoining carthouse set back to the right (north). It is constructed of rubble and features a slate roof. The eastern side, which faces the farmyard, has a central entrance to the barn, with a fragmentary pegged doorframe and a slate lintel. On either side of the entrance are square upper lights located under the eaves, with unglazed frames. There are also ventilators at the lower level and rows of nesting niches for doves incorporated under the eaves on both the left and right sides. The rear of the barn has an opposing entrance with a boarded door, an open upper loading bay on the south gable end, and a wide 20th-century opening with a concrete lintel on the north gable end.
The carthouse is a single-storey, two-bay structure with rubble gable ends and a central rubble pier, also topped with a slate roof. The barn itself consists of four bays and retains original pegged king post trusses, with a flagged central threshing floor.
