Description

Pont Fawr is a fine road bridge featuring four arches, with the two central arches being taller and wider than the flanking ones. It is constructed of rubble, and the arches are of a wide segmental type, with rough-dressed voussoirs set back below the arch rings made of narrow stones. Both the upstream and downstream sides of the bridge have triangular cutwaters. The rubble parapets are topped with slate-slab copings and continue as revetment parapets that flank the road as it curves to the east at the southern end of the bridge. At the northern end, the upstream parapet curves to the west, creating a squinch effect due to modern widening at this location.
