Description
Balls Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that features a timber-framed structure with brick infill and a tiled roof. The building consists of two structural bays and has external chimney stacks at both gable ends. It is a single storey plus a garret, with irregular window arrangements. The elevation facing the road includes three 19th-century metal casements and two 20th-century wood casements on the ground floor. The rear elevation has three 20th-century wood casements on the ground floor and a 20th-century multi-paned door to the left bay. The east gable has a 20th-century brick external stack, two 19th-century attic casements, and a 20th-century porch extension with a tiled roof, along with a multi-paned casement and door to the left of the stack. The west gable end features a chimney with a rubble sandstone base that extends to the rear, forming a bread oven with a tiled lean-to roof, and a rebuilt detached brick stack with four 20th-century attic lights.
