Description
Upper Court is a farmhouse built in the 18th century, with additions and alterations from the 19th century. It features a timber frame with narrow, closely spaced studs intended to be rendered, brick infill, and a sandstone rubble base. The roof is tiled with overhanging eaves and consists of two parallel ranges. The building stands two storeys high with gable-lit attics, which have bargeboards and finials on the southeast gables. The main elevation has four bays, and all windows are fitted with wooden mullions and transoms. A 19th-century timber-framed and gabled porch, adorned with a bargeboard and finial, has a part-glazed door with raised and fielded panels located in the third bay. There are several 19th-century extensions on the northwest elevation. To the northeast, there is a terrace with sandstone retaining walls and a large arched entry leading to the cellar. The southeast elevation overlooks a moated site within the farmstead.
