Description
The Palace Cafe is a Georgian style, three-storey, three-bay shop with a dwelling above, featuring a faceted front elevation that faces the castle. The building has scribed roughcast walls and a hipped slate roof with a roughcast stack on the left side. The lower storey includes a central doorway set in a rusticated surround, which has a replaced door. In the right-hand bay, there is a 12-pane horned sash window with a sill, also in a rusticated surround, while the left-hand bay is blank. Above the lower storey, there is a thin cornice followed by a much deeper moulded cornice that runs continuously around the left side wall. The middle storey features 12-pane hornless sash windows, and the upper storey has similar 9-pane sashes. On Palace Street, there is a similar single bay arrangement of single sash windows in the upper storeys, and the lower storey has a triple window of 2-pane sashes in rusticated surrounds. The right side wall, which faces Hole in the Wall Street, has a slate plaque displaying the street name and late 20th-century windows offset to the right.
