Description
18 Palace Street is a 2-storey house that is set forward from 16a Palace Street. It features a front made of scribed roughcast brick and a slate roof. The shop front includes a half-lit panelled door on the right and a shop window with wooden mullions. Both the doorway and window are framed by panelled pilasters, a plain fascia, and a dentilled cornice. On the upper storey, there are two early 20th-century 4-pane sash windows. The rear of the building is pebble-dashed and has a lower wing with a brick end stack, along with a later monopitched projection.
Inside, a stone winding stair leads down to a cellar. The wooden stair to the upper storey dates from the 19th century. In the upper storey of the rear wing, there is a single surviving 17th-century queen-post truss with plaster infill. A lath and plaster partition separates the upper storeys of Nos 16a and 18, while on the lower storey, a timber-framed partition sits on a stone sill with a sill beam and retains wooden boarding.
