Description
11 Castle Ditch is a Georgian house and shop with two bays and three storeys, plus an attic. The exterior features roughcast walls and a slate roof with a moulded wooden eaves cornice. The lower storey includes a mid-20th century shop front with two segmental-headed windows that have been replaced in their original openings, along with a dentilled cornice. To the left, there are replaced double doors beneath a plain segmental-headed overlight. The middle and upper storeys have small renewed four-pane sash windows in their original openings, although the left window is not quite aligned. The attic louvres are rendered over and not visible from the outside.
At the rear, the building is constructed of rubble stone and features a two-storey roughcast lean-to and a single-storey L-shaped link to 16 Palace Street. This rear section is built on a stone boundary wall that defines earlier burgage plots.
Inside, original stairs with parallel flights are partially preserved in the upper storeys. The two-bay roof includes an early 19th-century collar-beam truss, though it has re-used collar and renewed purlins. The attic has louvres on the front elevation.
