Description
70 and 72 St Edward Street is a house that has been divided into two units, functioning as a house and a shop with accommodation above. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of brick with a slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and features a five-window range with a central entrance hall. The entrance is highlighted by a stone Doric architrave with a heavy entablature above a six-panelled door that has a traceried fanlight. To the left of the doorway, there are two 12-pane sash windows, while an early 20th-century shop front is located to the right. The first floor contains five 12-pane sash-type windows, and the attic storey has nine-pane windows, all renewed in their original openings with flat-arched heads. A moulded stone eaves cornice and end wall stacks are also present. Internally, the building has been subdivided to the left of the entrance hall, and No. 72 is now accessed through a side door, which is reached via a doorway with a stone architrave on the left side of the building. The interior has not been inspected.
