Description

Neptune Cafe Bar and Takeaway is a late Georgian building that originally consisted of a pair of houses. The exterior features scribed roughcast painted white and a slate roof with a roughcast stack on the right side. The front elevation shows its past as two separate properties.

On the left side, the former house has a shop front on the lower level, which includes recessed half-glazed panelled doors flanked by three-light shop windows. These are framed by panelled pilasters and double end consoles supporting a cornice that has been repainted. Above this, there are tripartite 12-pane sash windows on both the right and left in the middle storey, and smaller tripartite 6-pane windows on either side in the upper storey, with a blocked central window in both storeys.

The right-hand former house features its entrance in the left bay, with a fielded-panel door beneath a small-pane overlight and a simple doorcase topped with a pediment. To the right of this entrance are two plain shop windows that have replaced the original sashes. In the middle storey, there is a 4-pane sash window on the left, a blocked central window, and a two-light oriel window on the right. The upper storey has 8-pane fixed windows on either side of the blocked central window.

At the rear of No 25, there is a lower two-storey wing with a splayed doorway facing Wall Street, which has a replacement door. The windows in this wing are also replacements. Further to the left, there is a separate premises located at the back of No 27.

Inside, the building has been modernised but still retains a single panel of a former partition behind the counter, showcasing exposed wattle.
