Description

This building is a late-Georgian style three-storey, three-bay house and shop, featuring a pebble-dashed front and a slate roof with an eaves cornice that has billets and raised fields, which continues to Nos 36-38 Castle Street on the right. The building has roughcast stacks located at the ends and to the right of centre on the front roof slope. The entrance to the house is positioned to the left of centre and consists of a panel door that is topped by a pointed radial-glazed overlight, all within a smooth-rendered surround. To the left of the entrance is a four-pane horned sash window, also framed in a smooth-rendered architrave. On the right side, there is the shop front, which features plate-glass windows flanking a half-glazed margin-lit door with an overlight. The shop front is supported by simple broad pilasters with fluted capitals, and a modern fascia has been added over the original fascia, all beneath a moulded cornice that extends across the front as a simple raised band. A former doorway further to the right has been converted into a shop window.

On the middle storey, there are replacement top-hung small-pane casement windows on both the right and left, set within rendered architraves that have shaped sides, along with a panelled entablature featuring a moulded cornice, a sill band, and panelled aprons. The central bay includes a four-pane glazing leading to a central oriel window. The upper storey is distinguished by wide eight-pane sash windows, also in rendered architraves with corbelled sills.

The rear of the building is constructed of rubble stone and features brick segmental-headed openings, along with a lower two-storey wing that has replacement and inserted windows. The building has not been inspected.
