Description
Letty is a pair of whitewashed stone, single-storey cottages. They feature roofs made of small slates arranged in regular courses, with two end chimneystacks and one off-centre chimneystack, all having shaped caps and water tabling. The window openings are adorned with whitewashed stone lintels and thin slate sills. The north front displays, from left to right: a vertical 8-pane fixed light with a top 2-pane opening light; a 20th-century glazed door; a 15-pane fixed light; a smaller 9-pane hornless sash window; a 20th-century door in two halves with applied hinges; and a 4-pane horned sash window. There is a 20th-century single-storey lean-to at the west end, featuring a boarded door to the east. The rear elevation includes, from left to right, a 20th-century glass porch; a 6-pane sash window; a 4-pane casement window; and a 20th-century window to the right.
The west cottage has a characteristic croglofft layout, with the front door opening directly into the kitchen, which is open to the roof. It has a large fireplace recess, although the original stone fireplace lintel has been removed, and the flooring consists of painted clay squares. An original wood partition cuts across the room, rising to the full height of the house and featuring an upper doorway now accessed by a modern stair instead of the traditional loft ladder, leading to an attic bedroom. The rafters at the apex of the roof are visible and halved over one another. The interior of the east cottage has been extensively modernised, but the original position of the croglofft is still discernible, with monolithic jambs to the centre fireplace and a chamfered wooden lintel.
