Description
Foxhole is a pair of cottages built end-to-end, constructed from rubble masonry and whitewashed. They feature a pitched slate roof that is closely cut to the eaves and verges. Each cottage is single storey with a loft and consists of two window bays. Each has a central boarded door set in a stone pointed arch, flanked by small pane casement windows, which are also within openings that have similar pointed heads. The front roof pitch includes two rooflights.
There are three tall stone stacks with water tabling, which carry late 19th-century terracotta flues. The shafts of these stacks are moulded with basketwork and have octagonal moulded heads. The right end elevation has two small windows, with the one on the right retaining its original stone lintel. Both cottages feature small paned glazing, and there is a similar small window on the left end elevation. The rear elevation is blind and has a retaining wall against the hillside, with a modern passage cut along the back.
The cottages were not accessible at the time of inspection, but an earlier inspection noted that the internal layout of the kitchen and living room remains largely intact, with rubble partition walls.
