Description
Cae'r-maen is a pair of single-storey cottages that were likely used by smallholders or quarrymen. The cottages have masonry walls made of large blocks of local stone and feature a roof covered with small slates that have been slurried over. There are three stone chimneys, each retaining clay pots; one is located at each end of the cottages, and one is offset to the right of the center, positioned to the left of the right doorway.
The cottages have two doorways: the left doorway features a boarded door, while the right doorway has an early 20th-century door. There are three small square windows with fixed panes, located one on either side of the left doorway and one to the right of the right doorway. To the left of the main structure, there is a lean-to addition built from smaller rubble, topped with a corrugated roof and featuring a doorway with a boarded door. The rear of the cottages has a small blocked window towards the north and a small window in the lean-to.
It is said that the cottages have a croglofft, and the kitchen is located in the middle room. There is an additional croglofft in the right-hand section.
