Description
Mount Hazel is a two-storey building with an attic, constructed from pebbledashed rubblestone and topped with a large slate roof featuring coped verges and integral end stacks. The original house has a three-bay front with a three-window range, and there is a single-storey block extending to the right. All the windows in the main building are 16-paned sashes with slate cills on both the ground and first floors, while the outer windows on the first floor are unhorned. The early 20th-century dormers are gabled in the center and hipped on the outer bays, breaking the eaves and featuring horned 20-paned sashes with slate cills.
The central entrance is adorned with an Edwardian porch that has plain Doric pilasters, glazed sides, a gable, and a roof. The entrance includes half-glazed panelled inner and outer doors. To the right, there is a lower two-storey addition built in 1904, which has three 12-paned sashes on each floor, all horned and with slate cills, as well as an integral end stack. Further to the right, there is a single-storey addition that features similar sashes in the center and right, along with a small window to the left and an integral end stack with a tall stepped shaft.
Inside, the central hall contains a dog-leg staircase with stick balusters, a moulded handrail, and a cut string. A room at the rear on the left showcases good Edwardian panelling, and there are panelled window shutters throughout the building.
