Description
Carrog is a two-storey building with an attic, constructed from squared rubble stone and featuring a deep-eaved roof covered with small slates. It has stone end stacks and a basement. The front facade has a four-window range of 12-pane sash windows, with a raised band and plinth above four 20-pane basement windows. Stone voussoirs and stone sills are present throughout. The north end includes two 9-pane loft lights and two 12-pane sashes on each floor, with the first floor left blank.
At the center of the building is a large enclosed stone porch adorned with stone dentils beneath a moulded eaves cornice. The doorcase is offset to the right and features tall pilasters and a cornice, with fielded panelled reveals and a 6-panel door that has four fielded panels and a large traceried overlight. The overlight contains radiating-bar fan tracery within a rectangular light. Slate steps lead up to the porch, with iron railings on either side leading to the basement. The south end mirrors the loft lights and includes a ground floor conservatory from the 20th century.
The rear of the building features a central 12-pane and 6-pane stair lights, with 12-pane windows on the right side. The basement area is accessed via a brick porch with a 6-panel door. To the left, there is a single-storey rear wing topped with a tall stone ridge stack. Basement steps are located on the west side, leading to a broad basement window and a ground floor window with 36 small panes. A horizontal-sliding casement pair is found in the north end wall, along with a casement pair and a blocked window on the east side.
Inside, the layout consists of two front rooms, a spine passage, and a rear stair. The passage and stair feature modillion cornices, with an open-well stair that has stick balusters arranged in four flights. The cornice modillions are also repeated on the underside of the stair. The northeast front room boasts a heavily-detailed reeded cornice, while the fireplaces have been updated in the 20th century.
