Description
The Shelter Shed and Pigsties at Ty'n-yr-hendre is a 19th-century structure featuring a long, six-bay rectangular open-fronted shelter shed, which is oriented roughly east-west. Attached to the east end are lean-to pigsties. The building is constructed from roughly coursed rubblestone and has a wide hipped slate roof.
The shelter shed includes six segmental-headed openings on each long wall, which are divided at the center by a wider pier. A stone cross wall separates the stone-walled enclosures in front, each topped with stone-on-edge coping. Individual yards are accessed through gates with shallow pyramidal-capped square piers.
While the pigsties have lost their slates and rafters from the lean-to roof, they remain otherwise complete. Inside, there are four pens facing the entrance to the farmyard, with doors leading to the interior of the sties, divided by stone cross walls. The pens feature slate and brick feeding troughs, and there is a boarded door in the north end wall of the lean-to section. At the time of the survey, the three eastern bays on the south side of the shelter shed had recently been infilled with glazed screens.
