Description
The Penrhyn Estate Office is a single-storey building designed in a free Italianate style. It features regularly coursed and dressed rubblestone blocks, with tooled and rusticated quoins and ashlar surrounds for the doors and windows. The roof is part gabled and part hipped, covered with slate and has deep eaves.
The main section of the front elevation has a slightly projecting gable at the center, which includes carved single-purlin and wall-plate ends above deep verges. This section features a tripartite sash window set in a segmental-headed surround with a keystone. To the left, there is a porch that is slightly recessed from the gable, topped with a hipped slate slab roof and a bracketed cornice, leading to a 4-panel inner door. To the right of the gable, there is a 4-paned sash window in a segmental-headed surround with a keystone, and another sash window in the return to the left of the porch. There is also another projecting gable to the left, which mirrors the front gable with a tripartite sash window.
The building has a tall ridge stack with a moulded capping to the right of the front gable and a narrower stack at the rear. To the right of the main section, there is a long recessed range that includes a 6-panel door with curved and glazed top panels to the left, along with two 4-paned sash windows. This range has a ridge stack in the center and an integral end stack to the right, both of which are truncated.
Inside, the building retains a complete set of panelled window shutters and features a polished Penrhyn Quarry slate fireplace in the main office.
