Description
Bryn-Meurig is a two-storey building that originally features a symmetrical three-bay front but has been extended on the right to create a canted end and possibly at the rear with a lower service range set back on the left. The exterior is finished in roughcast rubblestone with a hipped slate roof that is partly hidden by an ashlar parapet with a moulded cornice.
The front elevation includes three evenly spaced unhorned nine-paned sash windows with slate cills on the first floor. At the center, there is a wide gabled porch with a segmental outer arch, which now has 20th-century sliding glass doors over the original doorway that features a semi-circular radiating fanlight and sidelights, with a panelled lower section and glazed upper section containing a 20th-century glazed door. To the left of the porch is a 12-paned horned sash window, while to the right, slightly offset from the first-floor window, is a canted bay window with a slate roof and French windows.
The right end wall features a full-height canted bay projection with nine-paned sashes on the splays and a blind window in the center on the first floor above 10-paned French windows with margin lights in corresponding positions on the ground floor. To the right of this projection is a six-paned sash window on the first floor and a 20-paned tripartite sash window directly below. The main range has two prominent ridge stacks on the left and right. The service range has a hipped slate roof and a ridge stack with a purple brick shaft. There is a single-storey lean-to at the front with a top-hung window styled as a six-paned sash, a 12-paned horizontal sliding sash window beneath the eaves to the left of the lean-to, and 12-paned casement windows on each floor in the end wall.
Inside, the central hall features a staircase approached by an enriched round-headed ceiling arch on elaborately decorated consoles. The staircase has stick balusters, a closed string, and a turned and wreathed bottom newel leading to a moulded handrail. The room to the right of the hall has a boarded floor, a moulded cornice, and a polished slate fireplace from Penrhyn Quarry with carved brackets supporting the mantelshelf and a decorated cast-iron grate. Throughout the building, there are panelled window shutters and doors.
