Description
Pont Penrhyn is a bridge that spans both the Afon Cegin river and former railway tracks. It is constructed from regularly coursed rubblestone and features massive chamfered slate-stone coping on the main structure, with each coping stone in two pieces over the river and in single pieces over the railway. The abutments have stone-on-edge coping. The bridge has a single segmental arch over the river, which includes voussoirs, a keystone, and an arch-ring that is terminated by rectangular piers with round-headed niches. An iron plate on the arch bears the inscription "GHDP/1820," and above it, there is a decorative ironwork balustrade. At the eastern end of the bridge, beneath the roadway, there are two segmental arches over the former railway, with the eastern arch infilled. Both arches have brick soffits and iron gate hinges that were used for original gates.
