Description
The monument to J W Jones and family is a churchyard memorial designed in a flamboyant style. It features an ashlar tomb chest with curved ends, adorned with festooned garlands, and rests on a stepped plinth that is also curved at the ends. Atop the tomb chest is a raised sarcophagus with a finial, additional garlands, and tablets. The entire structure is enclosed within a rectangular stone surround, which includes twisted iron colonettes linked by decorative iron chains. The main inscription, written in Welsh, commemorates J W Jones (1839-1896) and his wife, Frances Ann Lloyd Jones (1857-1909). There is also a further inscription on the plinth, in English, honoring their son, Captain John Lloyd Jones, MC of the 2nd Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment, who was killed in action in March 1916.
