Description
Bryn-mawr is a single-storey building with a three-room layout, oriented roughly from north-east to south-west. The left room, located to the south-west, is an addition to the original structure. At the rear, there is a continuous catslide outshut that extends almost the full length of the building, connecting the original cottage to the addition. The front features irregularly coursed rubblestone with traces of limewash on the original part, while the outshut has more regularly coursed rubblestone. The roof is covered with graded slate.
The front of the building has four-paned sash windows on either side of an offset boarded door leading to the original cottage. There is also another four-paned sash window with a slate cill in the addition. The building has integral end stacks with slate drips, the most prominent being on the larger left room of the original cottage, and there are no openings in the outshut.
The original cottage consists of a two-room plan with a stone cross wall that includes two doorways leading to the smaller room on the right. The left ground-floor room, which is the addition, features a spindly A-frame truss at the center with lime torching on the underside of the roof. It also has a large integral end fireplace with a slate lintel and mantleshelf, along with a window seat on the front wall.
