Description

Castle Pharmacy is a three-storey shop with a dwelling above, constructed in scribed roughcast and topped with a hipped graded-slate roof and a brick stack on the right side of the Castle Square elevation. The Castle Square elevation, along with the center and right-hand bays of the Bridge Street elevation (which includes the original No 2), features a dentil wooden eaves cornice. The left-hand bay of the Bridge Street elevation, originally No 4, has a moulded eaves cornice that continues with No 6.

The lower storey has a 20th-century shop front on both the Castle Square and Bridge Street elevations, but it retains an original entrance at the splayed corner. The Castle Square elevation consists of two bays and includes late 19th-century eared and keyed architraves and sill bands for the replaced windows. The angle of the building is rounded and rebated on the middle and upper storeys. The three-bay Bridge Street elevation has openings that are spaced further apart. The windows here also feature architraves and sill bands similar to those on the Castle Square elevation, although the upper-storey sill band on the left-hand bay (originally No 4) is earlier and continues with 6 Bridge Street. The windows are 12-pane horned sashes on the middle storey and 9-pane above, except in the right-hand bay where they have been replaced.
