Description
8 Bridge Street is a three-storey shop with a dwelling above, built with scribed roughcast and stressed quoins, topped by a hipped slate roof. The building features a single-window range facing Bridge Street and a longer return elevation to Pool Hill, with the main entrance located at the corner, which is splayed on the lower storey. The doorway has a replaced door with a plain overlight. The shop front includes fluted pilasters, a fascia with panelled end brackets, and a cornice that incorporates a dentil frieze.
On Bridge Street, there is a two-light shop window with shallow segmental heads and simple foliage carved in the spandrels, while the Pool Hill elevation features a similar four-light window. Above the shop on the Bridge Street elevation, there is a 12-pane sash window in the middle storey, framed by a moulded architrave with a keystone, and in the upper storey, a panelled architrave surrounds a 9-pane hornless sash window set on a corbelled sill. The Pool Hill elevation has simpler windows above the shop, including a central tall and narrow 10-pane hornless sash window that lights the stair. In the middle storey, there is a 12-pane hornless sash window on the left and a late 19th-century four-pane sash window on the right, while the upper storey has a 9-pane hornless sash window on the left. At the rear, a lower three-storey, two-window gabled wing faces Pool Hill and has replaced casement windows.
