Description
21 Bridge Street is a shop with a dwelling above, built in an enriched late Victorian classical style and consisting of three storeys with a two-window front. The exterior is roughcast, and the slate roof features end brick stacks, which are shared on the left side. The shop front on the lower storey is a replacement from the late 20th century, reaching up to the level of the first-floor sill band.
The upper storeys are framed by full-height Tuscan pilasters and a deep cornice, while the parapet is topped with an elaborate Flemish pediment gable. The centrally placed paired windows on the middle storey are 4-pane horned sash windows set in architraves with Tuscan pilasters, a blank entablature, and a deep moulded cornice. The upper storey features similar paired sash windows with rusticated jambs, shallow sinuous aprons, and a sill band that extends across the end pilasters. The eaves cornice is enhanced with a central shallow scrolled pediment.
The Flemish gable displays a moulded panel with '1835' in relief, beneath a moulded cornice topped by a segmental pediment adorned with simple relief foliage and a finial. On both the left and right sides, the balustraded parapet ends with square piers.
At the rear, the building has mainly 6-pane horned sash windows and includes a basement storey, as the ground level drops sharply at this side.
