Description
N Farm Range at Penychain is a 19th-century agricultural building constructed from local stone rubble and topped with a slate roof. The larger western section serves as cow housing and features three stable doors along with ventilation windows in between. The eastern end includes three hammels, each with a wide, depressed three-centred brick arch. The first two hammels from the west have a stone-walled front yard within the farmyard, while the third has a narrower yard. At the eastern end, it is separated from the piggeries by a narrow service walk.
The north elevation is notably long and has only one small door and access steps, along with two ventilation slits towards the western end. Inside, the range is designed with double beast stalling against both the eastern and western walls, complemented by seating flanking the entrance. The structure features king post trusses, some of which include raking struts.
