S Range of Farm Buildings at Penychain

The southern range of farm buildings at Pen-ychain dates from the 18th century and is part of a farm yard that is a long rectangle extending to the west of the farmhouse. The yard is enclosed on all sides, with a main entrance on the south side and a driftway entrance on the west. This range of buildings extends from the small rear yard of the farmhouse to the south yard entrance. It is constructed of stone and features slate roofs.

The structure consists of two main sections: a 3-bay barn closest to the house, which has doors leading to the yard and a single slit window on each side. To the west, there are two sections that include a calf-house and associated functions, complete with stable doors and vented windows facing the yard, as well as a small door at the rear (south). At the eastern end, there is a small structure with an unequally pitched roof that faces the passageway. The plain south elevation features one door and tall ventilation slits in the western block.

Inside, the building has king-post trusses with raking struts, two loose-boxes likely intended for calves, an additional section possibly for weaning, and arrangements for cow stalling.
