Description
Ysgubor Degwm is a substantial agricultural building made of rubble, topped with a slate roof. It consists of a barn on the right and a cowshed on the left. The barn features slit ventilators that are internally glazed, along with a central entrance that has a camber head and modern red brick voussoirs inscribed with '1733 LP'. This entrance is now filled in with a painted timber screen and doors. The lofted cowhouse has cambered brick relieving arches, which may indicate that it was once a cartshed that has been altered. The rear of the barn appears to have had lean-tos added in the past, as shown by joist holes below the eaves. Currently, there is a lean-to at the eastern end, along with rooflights, two raised dormers, and an additional dormer featuring a cat-slide roof.
The barn has eight bays and collar trusses, with the trusses on the right having added bolted ties. One truss has been replaced, and there are splayed vents present. A full-height rubble wall separates the barn from the three-bay cowshed, which was formerly lofted. Belt drives are still retained at the right-hand end, although they were not visible during the inspection.
